What does it involve?

A well-woman check is a thorough check-up giving you peace of mind. The extensive well-woman review is designed to pick up any illnesses at an early stage and is an essential part of pro-active healthcare management. A well-woman check at London Gynaecology includes the Full history

  • Blood pressure assessment
  • Cervical smear (PAP test)
  • HPV subtyping test
  • Contraception and sexual health review
  • Detailed written report emailed or posted to you
  • Explanation of results via a letter
  • Arrangement for prescription and onward referral if required
  • Direct access for any urgent health concerns

The following tests can also be added to a well-woman check at an additional cost:

  • Blood tests including haemoglobin, thyroid profile, cholesterol profile, vitamin D, ferritin levels, glucose.
  • Swab tests for sexually transmitted infections
  • Swabs test for infections
  • Ultrasound scan

Who is it for?

Every woman considering having a coil fitted (IUD, IUS, Intrauterine Device) for contraceptive purposes.

How often?

As required. Most coils will need removing after 5 or 10 years depending on the type.

What does it involve?

Having a coil fitted involves:

  • A 30-minute consultation with a Consultant Gynaecologist
  • Full history taking and pelvic examination
  • Blood pressure assessment
  • Contraception review
  • Coil fitting (range of coils available including hormonal and non-hormonal)
    Removal of existing coil if required.
  • Detailed written report emailed or posted to you and your GP
  • Prescription arrangement
  • Direct access for any urgent health concerns

Who is it for?

Women over 50 years of age

How often?

Every year

What does it involve?

  • A 30-minute consultation with a consultant gynaecologist
  • Full history taking + abdominal and pelvic examination
  • Blood pressure assessment
  • Blood tests including
    1. Haemoglobin
    2. Thyroid function test
    3. Fasting blood glucose
    4. Vitamin D levels
    5. Fasting lipid (cholesterol) profile
    6. CA125 (ovarian cancer screen)
    7. U&E
    8. Liver function
    9. Oestradiol
    10. Testosterone
  • Comprehensive report
  • Direct access for any urgent health concerns

The following tests can be added to a menopausal health check at an additional cost:

  • Cervical smear test & HPV sub typing test
  • Pelvic ultrasound scan
  • Breast screening (mammogram or breast ultrasound)
  • Bone density scan for osteoporosis

What does it involve?

  • A 30-minute consultation with a consultant gynaecologist
  • Abdominal and pelvic examination including
    1. Test for 7 sexually transmitted diseases
  • Blood tests including
    1. HIV, Hepatitis B & C and Syphilis
  • Comprehensive report to you and your GP
  • Direct access for any urgent health concerns

The following tests can be added to a sexual health check at an additional cost:

  • Cervical smear & HPV sub typing test
  • HVS (high vaginal swab) for use in symptomatic patients only
  • Herpes swab test by PCR
  • Tests for male partners (urine and blood tests only)

What does it involve?

  • 30 minute consultation with a consultant gynaecologist with pre-pregnancy advice
  • Abdominal and pelvic examination
  • Blood tests including
    1. Full blood count
    2. Blood group and rhesus type
    3. Atypical antibody screen
    4. Haemoglobin electrophoresis
    5. Syphilis, Rubella, Toxoplasma, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, Varicella Zoster, HIV, CMV
    6. Glucose & Vitamin D
    7. Thyroid function

  • Transvaginal ultrasound scan
  • Blood tests including
    1. Day 2-5 FSH, LH, oestradiol (ovarian hormones), Prolactin

    4. Day 21 progesterone test (test of ovulation)
